Award-winning AI signals a new direction for fraud operations

London, UK, 7 July 2026 – Cleafy has won Machine Learning / AI Project of the Year (SME) at the 2026 Computing Digital Technology Leaders Awards for Nyx, its Autonomous Fraud Operations technology. The company was also highly commended in the Best Automation Project category.

The recognition comes at a time when many banks have solved one problem only to uncover another.

Fraud detection has improved dramatically over the past decade. Banks can identify suspicious activity faster than ever before. The pressure has simply moved downstream. Investigation teams are now expected to review more cases, make more decisions, and keep pace with fraud techniques that change continuously.

That shift has exposed an assumption that many institutions made when they chose to build their own fraud decisioning capabilities.

The cost of development is easy to estimate. The cost of ownership is far harder to predict.

Every fraud operation evolves. Decision logic grows more complex. Models need constant attention. Criminal behaviour changes. Engineers move to new priorities while analysts create workarounds to keep investigations moving. Those operational costs accumulate long after a successful go-live.

Nyx was built around a different operating model.

Rather than adding another application for analysts to manage, Cleafy developed Autonomous Fraud Operations that investigate cases, produce evidence-based decisions, and adapt continuously as fraud evolves. The technology has been operating in production at European banks since December 2025, with autonomous decisions measured against the judgement of experienced fraud analysts before execution.

Matteo Bogana, CEO of Cleafy, said: "Building fraud capabilities has helped banks stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated attacks. The next stage is making those capabilities easier to operate and maintain as fraud continues to change. We're proud to see Nyx recognised by the Computing Digital Technology Leaders Awards. For us, the award reflects growing recognition that the future of fraud operations lies in giving analysts autonomous systems that can investigate at scale while keeping people at the centre of the decisions that require human judgement."
